Dhaka: Sri Lanka crushed Bangladesh by 10 wickets on the fifth and final day of the second test match on Friday being played in Dhaka to claim the two-match series 1-0.
Sri Lankan pacer Asitha Fernando demolished the Bangladesh batting order in the second innings by claiming 6-51. He finished with an impressive 10-144 in the match playing a key role in the victory of Sri Lanka.
In the morning session, Liton Das and Shakib Al Hasan gave a good 97-run partnership after the exit of Mushfiqur Rahim for 23 in the early hours of the play. Liton and Shakib helped Bangladesh avoid follow on, though finally the crushing defeat could not be avoided. Bangladesh wickets fell quickly after Liton was dismissed with a brilliant caught and bowled by Asitha at 52. Shakib too followed soon. Bangladesh lost their last three wickets
without adding anything to the score.
Bangladesh’s second innings folded up at 169 leaving Sri Lanka with a target of 29 runs to win the match which it did in just three overs without losing any wicket.
Bangladesh had scored a respectable 365 in the first innings with some solid batting from Mushfiqur Rahim (175) and Liton Das (141). The sixth-wicket partnership of 272 runs between the two-century makers had helped Bangladesh score a decent total after the initial collapse of 24-5.
Sri Lanka replied with an impressive 506 in the first innings powered by centuries by Anglo Mathews (145, unbeaten) and Dinesh Chandimal scoring 124 giving Sri Lanka a good lead of 141 runs. Shakib Al Hasan claimed 5 wickets for 96 while Ebadot Hossain got 4-148.
