Suryansh Shedge, Suryakumar Yadav shine as Mumbai thrash Madhya Pradesh to lift Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024

Mumbai Indians registered a dominating 5-wicket win against Madhya Pradesh to clinch the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 title on Sunday. Suryakumar Yadav and Suryansh Shedge helped Mumbai chase down a 175-run target with 13 balls remaining to clinch their 2nd domestic T20 league title in the last three years.

In-form Rajat Patidar smashed 81 runs off just 40 balls to single-handedly lead Madhya Pradeh to a fighting total of 174 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Mumbai lost their opener Prithvi Shaw and captain Shreyas Iyer in the powerplay, but Rahane and Suryakumar added a 52-run stand for the third wicket, and red-hot Suryansh Shedge played another match-winning cameo for the record-stretching 63rd domestic title. 

Ajinkya Rahane scored 37 runs to finish the tournament as the leading run-getter with 469 runs in 8 innings at a strike rate of 164.56 and was awarded the Player of the Tournament. Shedge smashed 36* off just 16 balls and took Venkatesh Iyer's big wicket to clinch the Player of the Match in the SMAT 2024 final.

After knocking out Baroda in the semi-final, Mumbai's dominant run continued in the 17th edition of India's top-tier domestic T20 tournament. After opting to bowl first, Shardul Thakur gave Mumbai a sensational start by removing Madhya Pradesh's



openers in the second over.

But Patidar continued his brilliant run of form with another memorable knock. The RCB batter hit 6 fours and 6 sixes and remained unbeaten to ensure a big and fighting total for his team. For Mumbai, Shardul and Royston Dias picked two wickets each.

Prithvi Shaw's inconsistent form continued as he fell after scoring just 10 runs. Shreyas also failed to convert his good start into a big innings but in-form Rahane and India's T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav utilised their experience to tackle Madhya Pradesh's strong bowling attack.

Suryakumar top-scored with 48 runs off just 35 balls but was not able to finish the game for Mumbai. But Suryansh Shedge and Atharva Ankolekar added an unbeaten 52 runs off just 20 balls for the 6th wicket to avoid any late drama at M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
