UK Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak's love for cricket is not new as he has often showcased his admiration for the game. Sunak took his passion to a whole new level as he joined the England team for a cricket match.
Sunak took to his social media to post the snippets of his net session with the star England players. He captioned the post, "Am I ready for the call-up?" To which, the England cricket team replied in a hilarious manner, "Not bad, perhaps a few more net sessions first."
Sunk was joined by veteran speedster, James Anderson, who recently completed 700 wickets in Test cricket. Anderson bowled to the UK PM, who looked all charged up to face the pacer.
In an interaction before facing Anderson, Sunak revealed that he had a net session to get fully ready to face the legendary pacer. He also asked Anderson if the pacer would go easy on him and the 42-year-old said, "we'll see." Sunak was beaten and edged a couple of times by the England fast-bowler and even young cricketers got the chance
to bowl at the UK PM.
"I'll just stay here for the rest of the day. So you tell the office I'll be back later," Sunak said, as he was clearly enjoying the match. He also clicked pictures and gave autographs to the budding cricketers.
Sunak recently announced a GBP 35 million investment in cricket across England and Wales.
"I love cricket, that's no secret. So I'm pleased that today we can support even more young people in getting into the game. We're investing £35 million in grassroots cricket to help over 900,000 young people into playing cricket," Rishi Sunak wrote on 'X'.
The move is aimed at supporting and bolstering sports at the grassroot level throughout the country. The investment will go into the construction of the 16 all-weather domes on the grounds that will host the T20 World Cup matches in 2026 and 2030. England and Wales will host the Women's T20 World Cup in 2026. Meanwhile, England, Scotland and Ireland will host the Men's T20 World Cup in 2030.
