Virat Kohli's take on BCCI family rules gets Kapil Dev's nod

Virat Kohli's take on the BCCI's family restrictions rule gets the nod from legendary Indian captain Kapil Dev. The BCCI implemented the family restrictions rule after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series away in Australia. According to the rule, families are only allowed to join with players after the first two weeks of a tour, provided it lasts for more than 45 days.

Kohli commented on the new rule during the RCB Innovation Lab Indian Sports Summit and said that players would like to have their families around during long tours, especially when they're going through a rough patch. He also said that it helps players take more responsibility as well.

"If you ask any player, do you want your family to be around you all the time? You'll be like, yes. I don't want to go to my room and just sit alone and sulk. I want to be able to be normal. And then you can really treat your game as something that is a responsibility. You finish



that responsibility, and you come back to life,” said Kohli.

Kohli has now received support from Kapil Dev.

Speaking at the trophy-unveiling ceremony of the Grant Thornton Invitational Golf Tournament, the legendary skipper said that players need their families and the team with them. Kapil Dev recalled how during his time, the team always made the decision to focus on cricket for the first half of a tour and then bring the families in during the second part.

"I think that's a cricket board's call. Mine is, yes, you need a family, but yes, you need a team also all the time. In our time, we used to say to ourselves, not by the cricket board, the first half let me play cricket. In the second half, the families should come there and enjoy it too. It should be blend," said Kapil Dev.

Kohli will now be in action during the IPL 2025 campaign as he gears up for his 18th season.
