Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal have impressed as an opening pair in their maiden series together. The new opening pair fell just short of scripting history on Day 4 of the 2nd Test between India and West Indies in Port of Spain when they missed a 3rd successive hundred-plus opening stand by just 2 runs. Rohit and Yashasvi tore into the West Indies' new ball attack as they added 98 runs in just 71 balls before India lost their captain.

After Mohammed Siraj picked up his 2nd five-wicket haul in Tests on Sunday morning to have West Indies slip from 229 for 5 to 255-all out, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal came out all guns firing as India showed that they were going to rapidly set a steep target for the hosts.

Rohit

Sharma hit 57 in just 44 balls after getting to his fastest fifty in Test cricket (35 balls). Yashasvi Jaiswal also came out to bat with positive intent as he remained unbeaten on 37 from just 28 runs when early Lunch was taken due to rain on Sunday at the Queen's Park Oval. Rohit hit 5 boundaries and 3 sixes and he was also helped by some ordinary catching by West Indies in the first session on Day 4.

Rohit Sharma and Yashavi Jaiswal fell short of becoming the first Indian opening pair to stitch 3 hundred-plus partnerships in a bilateral Test series. However, Rohit and Jaiswal have added 466 runs as an opening pair in the 2-Test series.

The tally of 466 is the third most by an Indian opening pair in a bilateral Test series.
