Star India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja scripted history on Thursday as he went past the legendary Kapil Dev's record to become India's highest wicket-taker against West Indies in One Day Internationals (ODIs) during the series opener in Barbados.
Before the ODI series against West Indies, Jadeja was sharing the third spot with former India leg-spinner Anil Kumble with 41 wickets in 29 ODIs against the Caribbean. The list is led by Courtney Walsh, who took 44 wickets from 38 matches, followed by Kapil Dev, who dismissed 43 West Indies batsmen.
Jadeja broke Kapil Dev's record when he dismissed Romario Shepherd in the 18th over to take his third wicket of the ongoing first ODI against West Indies in Barbados. Jadeja's career-best ODI figures of 5/36 also came against West Indies, demonstrating his knack for
performing exceptionally well against this particular team. His consistent performance and ability to take crucial wickets have been instrumental in many of India's victories against the West Indies.
Apart from his bowling prowess, Jadeja is also known for his batting skills. He is close to equalling another record held by Kapil Dev - scoring 1,000 runs and taking 50 wickets in ODI cricket away from home. While Jadeja already has 1,125 ODI runs away from home, he requires three more wickets to join Kapil Dev on this list.
In the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy, Jadeja was the leading wicket-taker and received the Man of the Match award as a member of the final-winning team. His best-ever bowling figures in Test cricket were recorded in Australia's second innings in the Delhi Test, where he registered figures of 12.1-1-42-7.
