Navi Mumbai: In Women’s cricket, Australia defeated India by nine wickets in the first T20 International of the five-match series at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai last night. Chasing 173 runs for victory, Australia reached the target with nine wickets in hand and 11 balls to spare. Beth Mooney scored unbeaten 89 and Tahlia McGrath contributed 40 runs for the visitors.
Earlier, put into bat, India scored 172 runs for the loss of five wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. For India, Richa Ghosh and Deepti
Sharma scored 36 runs each. For Australia Ellyse Perry took two wickets.
The second T20I will be played at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai tomorrow.
The remaining three matches will be played at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on 14th, 17th and 20th of this month.
The series will be a good warm-up for both sides, ahead of next year’s Women’s T20 World Cup, set to be held in South Africa, in February 2023.
