South Africa continued their winning momentum in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 by defeating 5-time champions Australia by 134 runs at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. This is the first time since 1992 that Australia has lost their opening two matches in an ODI World Cup.
It got from bad to worse for Australia as they lost their second match in the 2023 ODI World Cup in Lucknow. This result came after they lost their opening match against India at the Chepauk
Stadium in Chennai on October 8. This was also just the third time that the Proteas beat Australia in the ODI World Cup.
The last time this happened was in 1992, when Australia lost their opening two matches against New Zealand and South Africa.
It was once again a case of a misfiring batting order for the Aussies as they couldn’t cope with South Africa’s fiery pace attack in Lucknow, after succumbing against India’s spin bowlers in Chennai.
