Delhi Capitals (DC) qualified for the final of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024 after securing its sixth win, beating Gujarat Giants (GG) by seven wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday. The Capitals pipped the Mumbai Indians to finish on top of the points table at the culmination of the league stage. DC finished with 12 points, while MI would end the group stage with five wins and 10 points.
Chasing a modest 127 for the win, DC captain Meg Lanning kickstarted the chase with a flurry of boundaries during the
powerplay. Unfortunately, Lanning was run out shortly after, followed by new batter Alice Capsey falling in the same over to Tanuja Kanwar's maiden wicket.
Despite these setbacks, Delhi remained composed, with Shafali Varma and Jemimah Rodrigues forging a crucial 94-run partnership. Varma displayed her attacking prowess, while Jemimah provided solid support, steering the team towards victory. Although Varma fell short of finishing the game after scoring 71 runs, Jemimah sealed the win with a boundary in the following over.
