Delhi Capitals captain, Meg Lanning became the first player in the history of the Women's Premier League to breach the 500-run mark. The former Australian player achieved this feat during the WPL 2024 match between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians on March 5, Tuesday.
Lanning has been in stellar form in the ongoing edition of the WPL. She stands at the 2nd position in the race for the Orange Cap, behind RCB's Smriti Mandhana in terms of most runs scored in the tournament so far. Lanning has been leading the team from the front with the bat as the top run-scorer for Delhi Capitals.
The legendary skipper, Lanning, has been piling on records this season, as during
DC's last match against Gujarat Giants, she completed 9000 runs in T20 cricket on March 3, Sunday. The veteran also became the fastest to 9000 runs in women's T20 cricket. She achieved the milestone in her 289th T20 appearance and broke fellow Australian cricketer, Beth Mooney's record.
Lanning has scored 68 fifties so far with 3 hundreds in T20 cricket. In the ongoing edition, Lanning scored 31 runs off 25 balls in the tournament opener against Mumbai Indians. After the loss in the first match, Delhi Capitals have been on a roll, winning 3 back-to-back matches in the 2nd season. Lanning's contributions to the team's success have been crucial as she scored a 43-ball 51 against UP Warriorz.
