Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) made a thunderous start to their campaign after recording the highest successful run-chase in the Women’s Premier League (WPL). On Friday, February 14, RCB chased down a mammoth target of 202 to beat Gujarat Giants (GG) by six wickets at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara. Richa Ghosh scored an unbeaten 64 off 27 balls as RCB romped home with nine balls to spare.

It was also the second time a team chased a 200 plus target in Women’s T20s after West Indies tracked down 213 against Australia at the North Sydney Oval back in 2023. Mumbai Indians (MI) held the record

for the highest chase in the WPL, but RCB snatched the record from the 2023 champions.

In the 12th over of RCB’s run-chase, Priya Mishra dropped Richa when the batter was on naught, and the missed chance turned out to be costly as the batter made the Giants pay big time. Ellyse Perry, who has had her injury concerns, also came out firing to score 57 off 34 balls, laced with six fours and two sixes.

For the Giants, their skipper Ash Gardner scored an unbeaten 79 and picked up two wickets in her very first over, but her efforts were not to take her team past the finish line.
