Ishan Kishan has replaced KL Rahul in India's squad for the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia. The match will be held from 7-11 June at the Oval.
The All-India Senior Selection Committee on Monday (May 8) added Kishan after Rauhl was ruled out through injury. Rahul suffered an injury to his right upper thigh while fielding during the IPL 2023 match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 1.
According to BCCI, Rahul will undergo surgery at the earliest followed by rehab at the National Cricket Academy, Bengaluru after consultations with specialists. The board also named Ruturaj Gaikwad, Mukesh Kumar and Suryakumar Yadav as standby players for the WTC final.
The BCCI also provided updates for Jaydev Unadkat and Umesh Yadav. The board said that Unadkat sustained a left shoulder injury after tripping over the side rope while bowling in the nets. The left-arm fast bowler is currently
at the National Cricket Academy undergoing strength and rehab sessions for his shoulder. A decision on his participation in the WTC final will be taken at a later stage.
Meanwhile, Umesh sustained a minor left hamstring injury during the IPL 2023 match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders on April 26. The fast bowler is currently under the care of KKR Medical Team and has started low-intensity bowling as part of his rehab process. The BCCI Medical Team is in regular touch with KKR Medical Team and is closely monitoring Umesh’s progress.
