Cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and choreographer Dhanashree Verma were granted a divorce by a family court in Mumbai on Thursday. The cricketer and his now former wife were present at the Bandra Family Court, which granted the divorce on a joint petition filed by mutual consent.

On Wednesday, the Bombay High Court directed the family court to expedite proceedings, considering Chahal's commitments with Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.

Chahal, 34, arrived at the family court first, with Dhanashree, 28, joining him an hour later.

"The court has granted the decree of divorce. The court has accepted the joint petition of both parties. The parties are no longer husband and wife," Advocate Nitin Kumar Gupta, representing

Chahal, said.

The mandatory six-month cooling-off period was waived in this case. The duo, who married in 2020, filed for divorce on February 5, 2025 and had been living separately since June 2022.

Chahal complied with the divorce settlement terms, which required him to pay Dhanashree Rs 4.75 crore. He paid Rs 2.37 crore initially, with the Bombay High Court noting that the second instalment would only be paid after the divorce decree was granted.

The family court had initially cited the non-payment of the full alimony amount as partial compliance with the divorce settlement terms and refused to waive the cooling-off period. It also referenced a report from a marriage counsellor, stating that mediation efforts had only been partially adhered to.
