India’s Kidambi Srikanth, on Thursday, August 4, advanced to the Round of 16 in the men’s badminton singles of the Commonwealth Games 2022. The 29-year-old defeated Uganda’s Daniel Wanagaliya 21-9, 21-9 in the Round of 32 match at NEC Hall 5.
Srikanth looked dominating right from the outset and made light work of the player from Uganda. The youngster served well and received his opponent’s serve with a lot of precision. Srikanth managed to garner 28 points, 14 each in both games, from his serve and broke his opponent’s serve
14 times.
Wanagaliya failed to make proper use of his service as he gained only four points from them. In the second game, the player from Uganda had a lead of one point for a short while, but Srikanth turned out to be too hot to handle for him.
In the first game, the duo was involved in the longest rally of 33 shots. Srikanth, thus far, has won three medals at CWG. His best performance came in the 2018 Gold Coast CWG when he won gold in the mixed team event. This time around, in the same event, he won silver.
