CWG 2022: Lovepreet Singh wins bronze in men’s 109kg

Lovepreet Singh, on Wednesday, August 3, became the ninth Indian weightlifter to win a medal in the Commonwealth Games 2022. The 24-year-old won the bronze medal in the men’s 109kg category in Birmingham.

The Young Turk from Amritsar finished with a total of 355 kg (163kg snatch, 192kg clean and jerk) to register his personal best in both categories. After the snatch round, Lovepreet was in contention to win either the gold or silver medal.

But he fell behind Cameron's Junior Periclex Nyabeyeu, who won gold, and Jack Opeloge of Samoa, the silver medallist, in the



clean and jerk round.

However, Lovepreet has taken it in his stride and was happy to put in a decent showing in his first major competition.

“Earlier, I trained for two years in Patiala. Then I prepared myself in a camp of around 1.5 and 2 months in Birmingham,” Singh was quoted as saying in an exclusive interview with India Today.

“Yes, it’s my first appearance in a major competition,” he stated. “It’s fine with me after I worked hard towards my goal.” “Troubles are inevitable and one has to face them head-on,” he said.
