India's Lakshya Sen and HS Prannoy made stunning starts to their campaigns at the BWF Denmark Open Super 750 tournament in Odense on Wednesday, October 19. Unseeded Lakshya came up with a clinical performance to beat World No. 6 Anthony Ginting in straight games while HS Prannoy fought past World Championships bronze medalist Zhao Jun Peng of China in straight games in their men's singles first-round matches.
However, London Olympic bronze medalist Saina Nehwal could not go past the first round in women's singles. Saina lost to Zhang Yi Man of China in 3 games despite staging a fine comeback after losing
the opening game. Saina's struggles continue as the veteran shuttler has not been able to find consistency at the highest level in the recent past.
Incidentally, Lakshya Sen will face HS Prannoy in an all-Indian men's singles second round on Thursday. The two in-form Indian shuttlers will be meeting on the tour for the fifth time in 2022. Notably, Prannoy defeated Lakshya in the pre-quarterfinals at the World Championships in Tokyo in August. Prannoy had also gotten the better of Lakshya at Indonesia Open in June while the Almorah shuttler had beaten Prannoy in German Open and India Open earlier in the year.
