India have made a winning start to their campaign in the FIBA Asia Women's Cup basketball tournament. On the opening day of the event in Bengaluru yesterday, India defeated Uzbekistan 92-76 in Division B.
Captain Anitha Paul Durai turned in a splendid performance putting up 28 points, and converting an incredible six out of seven attempts
from beyond the three-point line. India next faces Sri Lanka tomorrow.
In Division A matches, defending champion Japan whipped Philippines 106-55, favourite Australia outclassed South Korea 78-54, Chinese Taipei edged out North Korea 77-76, China overcame New Zealand 77-48 while Kazakhstan defeated Lebanon 62-54.
