In a big boost to their chances in the quarter-final against France, Raheem Sterling is all set to rejoin the England squad in Qatar. The Three Lions will face the defending champions in a blockbuster quarter-final match at the Al Bayt Stadium on Sunday morning (12:30 am IST).
Raheem Sterling is expected to rejoin the England squad on Friday, the Football Association, the governing body of England football said.
"The Chelsea forward temporarily left to attend to a family matter but is now expected to rejoin the squad in Al Wakrah on Friday ahead of the quarter-final with
France," the FA said in a statement on Thursday.
Sterling had flown back to London to be with his family after an armed robbery at his house in Surrey. The Chelsea winger was concerned about his children who were at his house along with his wife during the break-in.
The 28-year-old was not available for selection for the Round of 16 match against Senegal. Gareth Southgate's men hammered the African champions 3-0 to lay down a marker.
Notably, Sterling started and scored in England's 6-2 win over Iran and also started against Wales in their 0-0 draw.
