Russia thrashed Saudi Arabia 5-0 in the opening match of the World Cup Football in Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium last night. Yury Gazinsky gave Russia an early lead in the 13th minute of the game with a beautiful header.
At the stroke of the half-time, substitute Denis Cheryshev produced brilliant skills as he beat two defenders inside the box to double Russia's lead. Artem Dzyuba scored the third goal for Russia in the 71st minute. Cheryshev added a fourth with a superb finish
before Golovin curled in a beautiful free-kick in injury time.
Saudi Arabia tried attacking but were not given any chances by the Russian defenders as they kept the ball at bay. Russia get three points on the board and lead group A.
Three matches are scheduled for today. In Group A, Egypt will play against Uruguay while in Group B, Morocco will be up against Iran while Portugal will face Spain.
