Novak Djokovic, on Sunday, June 4, advanced to the quarters of the French Open 2023 men’s singles after beating Juan Pablo Varillas in straights at the Court Philippe Chatrier. The Serb won the match 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 in an hour and 57 minutes.
Djokovic also broke Rafael Nadal’s record of most quarterfinals at Roland Garros. The veteran has now qualified for 17 French Open quarters as opposed to Nadal’s 16. The legendary Roger Federer, who retired last year after a
Laver Cup doubles match with Nadal, has 12 Roland Garros quarters in his career. Djokovic also made it through to the quarters for a record 14th time in a row.
As far as the match between Djokovic and Varillas was concerned, the former kept his domination intact as he is yet to lose a single set this year at Roland Garros. Djokovic earned six breaks of serve to come up trumps. The fact that he had a win percentage of 84 from his first serves made a big difference in the game.
