Global Chess League Kicks Off

In chess, the second edition of the Global Chess League began in London yesterday. PBG Alaskan Knights started their campaign in style, defeating defending champions Triveni Continental Kings 15-3 on the opening day. Playing with black pieces, the Alaskan Knights collected 15 points, while the defending champions managed only 3 points from drawn games. Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, and Nihal Sarin ensured the team’s success by winning their respective matches.

American Gambits and Alpine SG Pipers also secured victories in their opening matches. In a high-profile contest,



Viswanathan Anand of Ganges Grandmasters drew with Alpine SG Pipers’ Magnus Carlsen, while Arjun Erigaisi held compatriot R. Praggnanandhaa to a draw in a tight battle.

At the Global Chess League, a win with the black pieces earns four points, while a win with white pieces earns three. A draw is worth one point, and a loss earns no points. Additionally, a team victory is rewarded with three extra points, a draw with one, and a loss with zero.

The six-team franchise chess tournament will conclude on the 12th of this month.
