In the Hockey India League, Team Gonasika secured a 3-1 victory in the shootout against Hyderabad Toofans at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela last evening, following a 3-3 tie at the end of regulation time.
Hyderabad Toofans found a moment to celebrate as Jacob Anderson etched his name in Hockey India League history by scoring the fastest goal ever, just 20 seconds into the match. Tim Brand in the first quarter and Amandeep Lakra in the second quarter added to the Toofans’ tally.
However, Team Gonasika fought back with a brace from Victor Charlet in the first and last quarters, along with a superb strike from Araijeet Singh Hundal in the second quarter, levelling
the score before the shootout.
In the shootout, the Toofans initially took the lead but were thwarted by Oliver Payne’s outstanding goalkeeping for Team Gonasika. Payne made three consecutive saves, securing a victorious end to his side’s campaign. The result leaves the Toofans in second place, but their semifinal qualification will depend on the outcomes of today’s matches.
Later today, JSW Soorma Hockey Club will face Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers at 6 PM IST, followed by UP Rudras taking on Tamil Nadu Dragons at 8:15 PM IST, which will also be the last Pool match of this season. Both matches will take place in Rourkela.
