India take on 10-time Champions China in the quarter final of the Sudirman Cup mixed team badminton championship in Gold Coast, Australia, today.
In other quarter-final, Japan will face Malaysia. India completed their league stage on Wednesday, finishing second, but qualified for the knock-out spot, riding on their match score, that is the number of matches won and lost in the league.
This is only the second time that India managed to reach the knockout stage, following their
quarterfinal finish at the 2011 edition when they lost to China 1-3. This time too India faces China in the quarter-finals.
The prestigious tournament will not figure Indonesia in the last eight for the first time in its 28-year history. Indian team comprises K.Srikanth and P.V.Sindhu in the men's and women's singles, Ashwini Ponnappa and N.Sikki Reddy in women's doubles, B.Sumeeth Reddy and Manu Attri in men's doubles and Ashwini Ponnappa and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy in mixed doubles.
