In the World Athletics Championships, Javelin Thrower Neeraj Chopra will begin his campaign in London today.
The 19-year-old world junior record holder has an outside chance of clinching a medal and he will feature in the qualification round. Davinder Singh Kang is the second Indian in the fray.
In the Men's 200 meters race, Botswana's Isaac Makwala and South Africa's newly crowned 400 metres world champion Wayde van Niekerk qualified for the Final.
In the semi-final heats, Makwala
clocked 20.14 seconds to progress. He was, earlier, prevented from running in opening 200 meters heat and 400 meters Final after falling victim to an outbreak of sickness that has hit many competitors. His name was later cleared by IAAF.
Van Niekerk finished third in the heats to miss out on an automatic qualifying spot.
However, his time of 20.28 seconds got him the berth. Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake and Isiah Young also qualified for the Final which will be held tonight.
