Salalah (Oman): Indian Junior hockey team opened their title defence by thrashing Chinese Taipei 18-0 at the Men's Asia Cup 2023 in Salalah, Oman yesterday. In their first Pool A match, Araijeet Singh Hundal starred in the match for India, scoring four goals, while Amandeep netted a hat-trick. Skipper Uttam Singh, Boby Singh Dhami and Chandura boby Poovanna scored a brace while Aditya Arjun Lalage, Sharda Nand Tiwari, Angad Bir Singh, Amir Ali, and Rawat Yogember also
netted a goal apiece.
With three points and a goal differential of 18, India now leads Pool A. India will play Japan today, followed by matches against arch-rivals Pakistan on Saturday and Thailand on Sunday. The top two teams in each pool will reach in the semi-finals. This tournament serves as a qualifier for the FIH Junior Men's World Cup 2023, which will take place in Malaysia in December.
