Indian men’s and women’s basketball teams kick off their campaigns at FIBA Asia Cup 2025

The Indian men’s and women’s basketball teams kicked off their campaigns at the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 in Singapore yesterday. The Indian men’s team stunned the higher-seeded South Korean team in the first match of the qualifying draw. The Indian team, seeded 18th, clinched the match in a dominating way, scoring 21 points in reply to South Korea’s 11, claiming their first-ever victory against South Korea with a minute to spare. The Indian team continued their momentum in their second group match against Macau, claiming a highly dominating 21-6 win.

Indian team will now take on the Philippines in the final match of the qualifying group stage today. The winner of the match will progress to the main draw of the competition. On the other hand, the Indian women’s team lost to Hong Kong by a big margin of 11 points. 

The Hong Kong team scored 17 points while Indian team managed just 6 points from the game. The Indian women’s team now need two big wins in their final two qualifying group matches against the higher-seeded Chinese Taipei and Guam today.
