In badminton, Indian men’s team lost 1-4 against Indonesia in the group stage of the Thomas Cup in Chengdu, China yesterday.
The Indian team, having beaten England and Thailand in the group stage, has already qualified for the quarterfinals, but lost its top spot in the Group to Indonesia.
In the first group match yesterday, H S Prannoy defeated Anthony Sinisuka Ginting 13-21, 21-12, 21-12 to give India 1-0 lead. In the doubles
fixtures, the duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty lost to the pair of Muhammad Shohibul Fikri and Bagas Maulana 22-24, 24-22 and 19-21 and the duo of Dhruv Kapila and Sai Pratheek lost in straight games to Leo Rolly Carnando and Daniel Marthin, 20-22, 11-21. In the singles matches, Lakshya Sen lost to Jonatan Christie 18-21, 21-16, 17-21 and Srikanth Kidambi lost to Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo 21-19, 22-24, 14-21.
