In badminton, Indian shuttlers PV Sindhu, Priyanshu Rajawat, and Kiran George sailed into the singles pre-quarterfinals of the Badminton Asia Championships in Ningbo, China.
Two-time Olympic medallist Sindhu will face Akane Yamaguchi of Japan in the second round OF the Women’s Singles this morning. She advanced after defeating Ester Nurumi Tri Wardoyo of Indonesia 21-15, 21-19 in the opening round yesterday.
In Men’s Singles, Kiran George will take on Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand in the second round. George registered a convincing 21-16, 21-8 win over Dmitriy Panarin of Kazakhstan in his opening match. Priyanshu Rajawat will face Kodai Naraoka of Japan
in his second-round fixture. Rajawat overcame Kantaphon Wangcharoen of Thailand with a gritty 20-22, 21-12, 21-10 win in the first round.
In Men’s Doubles, India’s pair of Ruban Kumar Rethinasabapathi and Hariharan Amsakarunan will face the Malaysian duo of Aaron Chia and Wooi Yik Soh in the second round.
Meanwhile, in Mixed Doubles, the Indian duo of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto will face Hong Wei Ye and Nicole Gonzales Chan of Taipei. Another Indian pair, Ashith Surya and Amrutha Pramuthesh, will take on the top-seeded Chinese pair of Zhen Bang Jiang and Ya Xin Wei in their second-round clash.
