The Indian Under-20 football team created history, when they defeated Argentina, 2-1 in their final match of the Cotif Cup in Spain.
Deepak Tangri scored for India in the 4th minute, before Aniket Jadhav was sent off in the second half. Anwar Ali's 68th minute put India 2-0 up against the most successful team in U-20 World Cup history.
Argentina pulled one back in the 72nd minute, and hit the cross bar in added time, but failed to break the Indian resolve as India concluded the tournament with a memorable performance.
Earlier, in their previous three games, the Indian colts had lost to Murcia, 2-0, Mauritania, 3-0 and held Venezuela to a goalless draw.
In Under-16, India defeated AFC champions Iraq 1-0 in the West Asian Football Federation Championship last night. With this victory, India returned to winning ways post their 2-1 defeat against Japan in the previous match.
The ongoing Championship is a preparatory tour for AFC Under-16 Championship, which will be played in Malaysia next month.
