India's Neeraj Chopra has been nominated for the Men's World Athlete of the Year for 2023. The Olympic and world champion is part of the 11-man shortlist for the prestigious award which will be announced by the world athletics body. This is the first time Neeraj has made it to the list of nominees as he competes with some of the modern-day track and field legends.

Neeraj will be battling with the likes of shot put world champion Ryan Crouser, pole vault star Mondo Duplantis, and 100m and 200m world champion Noah Lyles.

Neeraj Chopra capped off another sensational season with an Asian Games Gold medal in men's javelin. The Olympic champion recovered from a slow start to achieve his season best of 88.88m to win Gold in Hangzhou earlier this month. India finished 1-2

in a historic achievement at the Asian Games as Kishore Jena won silver with a personal best throw of 87.54 and qualified for the Paris Olympics.

Neeraj was not able to defend his Diamond Trophy as he finished second in the Diamond League final in Eugene with a best effort of 83.80m, finishing behind Czech Republic's Jakub Vadlejch. Neeraj also finished second in the Zurich Diamond League in August.

However, Neeraj scripted history by becoming the first Indian to win Gold in the World Athletics Championships with a sensational 88.17m throw. The gold medal in Budapest helped him to complete the golden set of Olympics and World Championships.

Neeraj also won the Doha and Lausanne leg of the Diamond League before the golden glory in Budapest.
