In Jammu & Kashmir, 2nd leg of the Khelo India Winter Games (KIWG) 2025 in the pristine snow-covered slopes of Gulmarg in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district has brought action and thrill followed by victory of athletes in various events of games on the inaugural day yesterday. In the Men’s Snowboarding Slalom, Jammu and Kashmir’s Mehrajuddin Khan carved his way to gold.
The Women’s Snowboarding Slalom saw Menka Gunjiyal of Uttarakhand moving effortlessly to victory, claiming gold. In the Ski Mountaineering Men’s Sprint, Army’s Rajeshwar Singh seized the gold. In the Alpine Skiing Slalom, Yogesh Kumar from Himachal Pradesh clinched gold. In the final competition of the Nordic Skiing, Bhawani Thekkada of Karnataka won gold in
the Women’s 5 km event. The 2nd day is also going to witness enjoyable hard competition among athletes to clinch their cherished medals.
J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha in his inaugural address late last evening said that the Khelo India Winter Games symbolizes the spirit of “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat”. He said sports provide us the opportunity to strengthen our bond as a family by imbibing the values of sportsmanship, and brotherhood, and promoting peace, unity and harmony. Against the backdrop of the stunning mountain range, the powdery snowfields of Gulmarg have turned into a playground of joy as athletes and spectators together enjoy a shared love for winter sports.
