Kings Eleven Punjab beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 14 runs at Mohali to stay in the hunt for the play-offs. Needing a win today, Punjab posted a modest 167 for 6 after being put into bat but they defended the total, courtesy a clinical bowling performance.
Sunil Narine and Chris Lynn gave Kolkata a fiery start. After Narine departed, two wickets that of Gautam Gambhir and Robin Uthappa in the 10th over by Rahul Tewatia dampened Kolkata's chase. With some exceptional fielding in the deep and tight bowling by Mohit Sharma and Axar Patel, Punjab managed to restrict them at 153
for 6 in 20 overs. For Kolkata Chris Lynn made 84 in 52 balls.
Earlier, Glenn Mexwell hit a quickfire 25-ball 44 which pushed Punjab to 167 for 6.
In the points table, Punjab remains at fifth spot with 12 points from 12 matches and can make it to the knock-out stage if they win their remaining two matches and some other permutations.
Kolkata on the other remain at second spot with 16 points from 13 matches and with a match left would like to win in order seal their position in the play off.
