Lakshya Sen, on Wednesday, August 2, retired midway from his Australian Open badminton Round of 32 match against Kiran George. The match stood at 0-5 before Sen retired from the game. But there is no official statement on why the ace shuttler threw in the towel.
The World Championship badminton will be played from August 21 and Sen might have taken a precautionary measure in the form of a retirement. George, in the meantime, will lock horns with Indonesia’s Anthony Sinisuka Ginting in the Round of 16 match on Thursday.
Recently, Lakshya Sen moved up two ranks to secure the 11th spot in the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings. This milestone owes much to his commendable performances in the recent tournaments - the Japan Open and the US Open - coupled with his noteworthy victory in the Canada Open.
Sen's journey at the Japan Open elevated him towards global recognition. Making his way to the semi-finals, Sen demonstrated his impeccable skills and determination that landed him a prestigious place in this super series
tournament.
Unfortunately, he fell short to Indonesia's Jonatan Christie in a nail-biting match that concluded his run in the tournament. Despite losing in the semi-finals, Sen's performance throughout the tourney was a testament to his unyielding spirit and steadily improving prowess on the court.
The young shuttler's victory at the Canada Open is a clear reflection of his sheer skill and potential. Bagging the prestigious title served not just as a morale booster for Sen but also signaled his promising future within the world badminton community. His match performance, marked by agility, strategic shot placements, and mental fortitude, showcased his readiness to take on the world's top-ranking players.
Sen's journey at the US Open was equally noteworthy. Climbing his way through to the semi-finals, Sen displayed commendable resilience and poise on the court. His raw athleticism combined with his astute sense of the game were integral in his progress within the tournament. Although his run ended in the semi-finals, his advancing progress displays his ability to compete at higher levels.
