In Table Tennis World Cup, India’s top players, Maika Batra and Sreeja Akula started their campaign yesterday with flying colours in the Women’s Singles group stages in Macao, China. World number 37, Manika Batra defeated Adina Dicanou of Romania, 3-1, while Sreeja Akula beat Natalia Bajor of Poland in straight games,
4-Nil.
In their next group matches, Batra is scheduled to face World number 2, Manyu Wang of China tomorrow. Sreeja will face another Chinese Chen Meng in her last group match.
A win in the next matches will ensure the Indian players a place in the knockouts.
