MC Mary Kom advance to semifinals of the Strandja Memorial Boxing Tournment

MC Mary Kom and L Sarita Devi entered the semifinals, along with two male boxers, in the 69th Strandja Memorial Boxing Tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria yesterday. The duo was assured of their third successive international medals. 

Mary Kom defeated Steluta Duta of Romania in 48-kilogram quarterfinal contest. Sarita got the better of China's Qi Yawen



in her last-eight stage bout in the 60-kilogram category.

In the men's draw, India Open gold-medallist Amit Panghal in 49kg also made the semifinal stage along with last edition's silver-medallist Mohammed Hussamuddin in 56kg contest. India is now assured of seven medals in the tournament, five of them courtesy women boxers.
