Novak Djokovic, who won his 21st Grand Slam title recently by winning the Wimbledon 2022, is likely to miss the US Open this year owing to his non-vaccination status. Djokovic who already missed the Australian Open this year is likely to miss the last Grand Slam event of the year as the organisers are likely to adhere to the US government’s Covic-19 vaccination guidelines.
Djokovic, who is currently ranked World No.7 has been named in the entry list for the US Open which was released on Wednesday. As per the ITF Grand Slam rulebook it was stated that the US
Open does not have vaccination mandate in place for players, but it is said that the tournment organisers will adhere to the US government’s position regarding the travel into the country for unvaccinated non-US citizens.
Since the US government has made it mandatory for travellers seeking to enter the country fully vaccinated, it makes Djokovic’s participation unlikely in the tournament. Djokovic has refused to take the jab even after missing the Australian Open this year and his stance on vaccination might make him miss the year’s last Grand Slam event as well.
