Barcelona midfielder Pedri extended his contract till 2030 with the Spanish club on Thursday, January 30. The 22-year-old player, who is currently one of the mainstays for both his club and country, put his signature on the new contract midway through the season.
Pedri is the second big-name player who extended his contract with Barcelona in recent days. Earlier on January 24, Uruguayan centre-back Ronald Araujo put an end to ongoing transfer speculation by signing a six-year contract extension with La Liga giants.
The Canary Islander made his long-awaited arrival at Barcelona nearly five years ago, following a season on loan at Las Palmas after signing for the club in 2019. He returned to Barça in the summer of 2020, and from day one, it was clear he was a special talent. At just 17 years old, he secured a spot in midfield and has since become a key fixture in the team at 22.
While Pedri is still young, his present form is nothing short of exceptional. This season, he’s not only maintained his high level of play but also gained regular playing time, thanks to a long injury-free
period. This has helped establish him as one of the world’s best midfielders. The Canary Islander has become a central figure in a team known for its fast, intense style of play, often taking risks, knowing he’ll deliver when the ball is at his feet.
Ensuring his future at the club has been a top priority—for both the team and Pedri himself. Growing up in the Canary Islands, he was a huge fan of Barça’s style, and now he’s living his dream. And it’s a dream that looks set to continue for at least another five years.
In the ongoing season, Pedri has had troubles with his injuries. The midfielder was injured during Spain's quarter-final against Germany in Euro 2024. In that game, German midfielder Toni Kroos lunged into Pedri, knocking out the player with his knee. Pedri, having been struck on his shin, fell down and was not able to continue past the 8-minute mark.
Barcelona later updated that Pedri had a left knee sprain and ruled the player out of action for one month. Pedri has played a total of 32 games this season. He has scored four times and has provided 4 assists so far.
