Bangkok: In Thailand Open Badminton tournament, India's PV Sindhu reached the second round beating United States' Lauren Lam 21-18, 19-21, 21-18 in the women's singles first-round match in Bangkok .In the second round Sindhu will face Sim Yu Jin of Korea.
However, Saina Nehwal crashed out of the tournament after losing to South Korea's Kim Ga Eun 21-11, 15-21, 17-21. The two-time Olympic medalist dominated the first game, winning it by 21-11. But Kim Ga Eun bounced back in the next two games, winning them by 15-21, 17-21. Indian qualifier Ashmita Chaliha lost to seventh-seeded Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand 10-21 15-21 in a first round match that lasted 29
minutes.
Another Indian qualifier, Aakarshi Kashyap lost to Michelle Li of Canada 13-21 18-21 to bow out of the tournament in the first round.
The mixed doubles pair of B Sumeeth Reddy and Ashwini Ponnappa also suffered a first-round exit, losing to the eighth-seeded Japanese duo of Yuki Kaneko and Misaki Matsutomo 17-21 17-21 in 34 minutes.
In Men's singles, Kidambi Srikanth advanced to the second round with a tough three-game win over Brice Leverdez of France. Srikanth, seeded eighth in the tournament, won the first round match 18-21 21-10 21-16 in 49 minutes.
He will face Nhat Nguyen of Ireland in the second round.
