PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen stormed their way into the semi-finals of the Syed Modi International Super 300 badminton tournament. On Friday, November 29, Sindhu, who won the championship in 2021 and 2022, defeated Dai Wang of China in the quarterfinal that spanned 48 minutes.

In the semis, the 29-year-old Sindhu will be up against fellow Indian Unnati Hooda. Sindhu, ranked No.18 in the world, said that she did not want to undermine Wang, who is ranked No.118 in the world.

“Today’s match was important. Even though she is a low-ranked player, it doesn’t matter. I have rectified my mistakes from yesterday, what went wrong I have not made those again today. I was aggressive from the beginning. Overall, I am happy with my game compared to yesterday,” Sindhu said after the win.

"Yesterday, it was a rough patch at some point of time. But I think today I did not give her a chance. I am happy with the result and my game. I would like to finish the year on a very good note,” Sindhu

added.

Sindhu has a challenging task in hand as Hooda, who also won the Odisha Open in 2022, defeated USA's Ishika Jaiswal 21-16, 21-9 in the quarterfinal and is in good form.

Lakshya, on the other hand, got the better of Meiraba Luwang Maisnam, winning 21-8, 21-19 in the men's singles quarterfinal. Lakshya will lock horns with Shogo Ogawa of Japan for a place in the final.

“It was a good match. Overall, happy with the way I started. The second game was tough at some moments but I am happy I could pull out the match,” Lakshya said.

Second-seeded women's doubles pair Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand delivered a commanding performance, securing a 21-8, 21-15 victory over sixth seeds Go Pei Kee and Teoh Mei Xing to book their spot in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, in mixed doubles, the fifth-seeded duo of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto showcased their prowess with a solid 21-16, 21-13 win against Malaysia's Loo Bing Kun and Ho Lo Ee, earning their place in the semi-finals.
