Sydney: In Badminton, Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu lost to World No. 12 Beiwen Zhang of the United States 12-21, 17-21 in the Women's Singles quarterfinals of the Australian Open in Sydney today. India's HS Prannoy and Kidambi Srikanth will also be seen in action in the Men's Singles quarterfinals later in the day.
Prannoy will take on world number two and top seed Anthony Sinisuka Ginting for a spot in the semi-final. In pre-quarterfinals, sixth seed Prannoy clinched a win against Chinese Taipei's world number 42 player Chi Yu Jen, 19-21, 21-19, 21-13 while Ginting of Indonesia knocked out India's Kiran George 21-15, 21-18
yesterday.
World number 19 Srikanth will face compatriot Priyanshu Rajawat in the clash of the last eight. Former world number one Srikanth overpowered Chinese Taipei's Su Li Yang 21-10, 21-17 while Orleans Masters champion Priyanshu defeated Chinese Taipei's Wang Tzu Wei 21-8, 13-21, 21-19 in the Round of 16.
However, it was the end of the road for Mithun Manjunath, who had stunned former World Champion Loh Kean Yew of Singapore in the opening round of Men's Singles. Manjunath went down fighting against Malaysia's Lee Zii Jia 13-21, 21-12, 19-21 in the Round of 16.
