PV Sindhu has been ruled out of the upcoming Badminton World Championships owing to a stress fracture injury on her left ankle.
Sindhu’s father, P.V. Ramana, in conversation with Sportstar, confirmed the development.
"She played the semis despite severe pain before eventually going on to win the gold in the CWG with a heavily strapped ankle", said PV Ramana.
He added that it is disappointing to see her miss out, considering the form she is in.
“Yes, it is
disappointing to miss the Worlds especially given the kind of form Sindhu is in after winning the Singapore Open and the CWG Gold. But, these things are not in our hands."
Ramana went on to say that Sindhu will next be targetting Denmark and Paris Opens.
“The focus will definitely be more on recovery, and we will be targeting the Denmark and Paris Opens in mid-October,”
Earlier, PV Sindhu added a Commonwealth Singles gold to her wide array of medals with a convincing straight-game win over Canada's Michelle Li.
