In Australian Open Tennis tournament, second seed Rafael Nadal will meet Britain's Cameron Norrie in the third round after both won their matches yesterday. Nadal's bid for an outright men's record 21st Grand Slam continued with a 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 win over American qualifier Michael Mmoh. British number three Norrie eventually beat Russia's Roman Safiullin to reach the last 32 for the first time.
Fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas came through a gripping five-set tussle with home wildcard Thanasi Kokkinakis to reach the third round. In Womens' Singles event, defending champion Sofia Kenin crashed out of the tournament after suffering a straight-sets defeat to Estonia's Kaia Kanepi in their second-round contest. Kanepi beat World No.4, 6-3, 6-2 in a match that lasted just 64 minutes. She will next take on Donna Vekic.
In other matches in Womens' category Karolina Pliskova defeated Danielle
Collins 7-5, 6-2, while Ash Barty defeated Daria Gavrilova 6-1, 7-6.
Meanwhile, Indian challenge in the event virtually came to an end after Divij Sharan crashed out in the Men's doubles and Ankita Raina lost her first-round clash in the women's doubles yesterday.
Ankita Raina with her Romanian partner Mihaela Buzarnescu lost 3-6 0-6 in just one hour and 17 minutes at the hands of the Australian wild card pair of Olivia Gadecki and Belinda Woolcock.
While in the men's doubles category, Divij Sharan with his Slovakian partner Igor Zelenay lost 1-6 4-6 against the German pair of Yannick Hanfmann Kevin Krawietz.
The veteran Rohan Bopanna, who crashed out from the Men's doubles event yesterday, however, still has a chance to make amends as he will partner China’s Yingying Duan in the mixed doubles.
