Rafael Nadal has withdrawn from the Swiss Indoor Open in Basel after his doctor advised him to rest his right knee.
Nadal, who has a track record of injuries curtailing his campaigns in the past has been asked not to aggravate his knee after having played out of his skin at the China Open in Beijing and the Shanghai Masters. Nadal won in Beijing before losing to Roger Federer in the finals in Shanghai.
While the Spaniard has enjoyed a decent amount of success on the hardcourts, the surface has always taken a toll on his body, which is why he has opted to sit out the Swiss
Open in order to recuperate and not burn out before the ATP World Tour Finals that are looming ahead in London.
"I sadly announce that I have to pull out of the Swiss Indoors Basel. After seeing my doctor in Spain just after landing from Shanghai, I am suffering from an over-stressing of the knee and the problems were already present at the tournament in Shanghai, which now forces me to take time off on advice of my doctor. After two great weeks in China, with the title in Beijing and the final in Shanghai, it is time for some rest." he wrote on Facebook to inform his fans.
