Rising Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz clinched the Madrid Open title, beating defending champion Alexander Zverev last night.
The Spaniard brushed aside the German second seed 6-3, 6-1 in 62 minutes in the men's singles final. The victory took the 19-year-old’s winning streak to 10 matches. the year.
Earlier, Tunisia's Ons Jabeur clinched women's singles title to become the first African player to win a WTA 1000 event. The 27-year-old, the world number 10, trailed 4-1 early on and failed to win a game in the second set but still beat American Jessica Pegula 7-5, 0-6, 6-2. She was the first Arab player, male or female, to break into the world's top 10.
The pair of Wesley Koolhof and Neal Skupski defeated Juan Sebastián Cabal and Robert Farah to win the men's doubles tennis title at the Madrid Open.
