In SAFF Under-17 Championship Football, India defeated Maldives 3-0 in the final Group A match at the Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu, Bhutan yesterday. After Samson Ahongshangbam gave India the lead in the 14th minute, Hemneichung Lunkim scored in the 74th and 89th minutes and sealed the win for team.
Defending champions India, who have already qualified for the
semi-finals, have finished as the Group A topper with six points. They will face the runner-up team from Group B in the first semi-final on 28th September. The final will be played on 30th September.
India is a five time champion of SAFF U17 and in the last edition they defeated Bangladesh by 2-0 in the final.
