PV Sindhu, Sameer Verma, Kidambi Srikanth and HS Prannoy on Wednesday advanced to the pre-quarterfinals of the Hong Kong Open at Kowloon, Hong Kong.
In women's singles, Sindhu, seeded third, defeated Thailand's Nitchaon Jindapol 21-15, 13-21, 21-17. She will take on Korea's Sung Ji Hyun next. However, it was curtains for Saina Nehwal who lost to second-seeded Japanese Akane Yamaguchi.
In the men's singles, Sameer, saw off another Thai Suppanyu Avihingsanon 21-17, 21-14 to set up a clash with China's Olympic champion Chen Long. Srikanth beat Wong Wing Ki Vincent
21-11, 21-15. Prannoy defeated Anders Antonsen of Denmark 21-14, 13-21, 21-19. B. Sai Praneeth was stunned by Khosit Phetpradab of Thailand and Parupalli Kashyap lost to Anthony Sinisuka Ginting of Indonesia.
In Men's doubles, Manu Attri and B.Sumeeth Reddy beat the Thai combine of Bodin Isara and Maneepong Jongjit 21-12, 21-18. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty lost to Mathias Boe-Carsten Mogensen.
In Women's doubles, Misaki Matsutomo and Ayaka Takahashi defeated Ashwini Ponnappa and N. Sikki Reddy.
