Sudhir wins India's first Gold medal in Para-Powerlifting in CWG 2022

Birmingham: In the Commonwealth Games, Para-powerlifter Sudhir clinched Gold medal in the Men's Heavyweight final with the best weight of 212kg last night. Sudhir won India's first gold in Para-Powerlifting at Commonwealth Games. He defeated Nigeria's Ikechukwu Obichukwu by 0.9 points as his final score read a Games record 134.5 points for the gold.

Murali Sreeshankar has clinched a historic silver medal for India with a best jump of 8.08 meters in the men's long jump. This is the first long jump silver won by an Indian male player in the history of Commonwealth Games.

India's Rohit Tokas stormed into the semifinals of the Welterweight boxing category with an emphatic 5-0 win over Niue's Xavier Mata'afa-Ikinofo. With this victory, Tokas confirmed India's seventh medal in boxing.

Earlier in the day, Super Heavyweight boxer Sagar Ahlawat also ensured a medal for the nation after winning his 92kg quarter-final against Seychelles' Keddy Agnes. Jaismine and Amit Panghal were also assured of medals after their wins in the last eight stages of the women's lightweight 60kg quarterfinal and the men's flyweight categories respectively.

In athletics,



Hima Das entered the semi-finals of women's 200m while Manju Bala entered the final of the women's hammer throw event.

In men's hockey with the help of Hat-trick by Harmanpreet, India defeated Wales by 4-1 and entered in semi-final.

Paddlers Sreeja Akula and Reeth Tennison also entered the women's singles table tennis round of 16 with wins in their respective matches.

In badminton, Aakarshi Kashyap progressed to the women's singles round of 16.

Shuttlers PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth have won their respective badminton singles Round of 32 matches.

In the Squash women’s doubles, India’s Joshana Chinappa and Dipika Pallikal beat Meagan Best and Amanda Haywood of Barbados in round of 16.

In the Table Tennis Men’s Doubles Round of 32, Sharath Kamal and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran beat Joel Alleyne and Jonathan van Lange of Guyana.

In Para Powerlifting, India's Manpreet Kaur placed fourth in Women's Lightweight Final.

So far, India have won 20 medals, which include 6 Gold, 7 Silver, and 7 Bronze.
