Tamil Nadu has became the first team to enter the semi-finals of the ongoing Ranji Trophy. In the quarter-final played in Visakhapatnam, they defeated a star-studded Karnataka by 7 wickets, within two days of the game.
Karnataka had made only 88 in their first innings on the opening day, replying to which Tamil Nadu were bowled out for 152.Karnataka were no better in the second innings as they were again all out for 150 setting a target of just 87 runs. Tamil Nadu achieved the target in 19.3 overs, with 7 wickets in hand. Dinesh Karthik, playing his 100th Ranji game, made a 30-ball 41.
Indian team's in-form players - Lokesh Rahul and Karun Nair - were part of the Karnataka team. The semi-final line-up will be
known after the completion of the other three quarterfinal matches which are being played at different venues.
In the other quarter-finals, Hyderabad is taking on Mumbai, Gujarat is playing Odisha and Haryana is up against Jharkhand.
Karnataka were no better in their second innings as they were again all out for 150. Rahul showed his class with a polished 77. Tamil Nadu achieved a target of 87 in 19.3 overs with Dinesh Karthik, playing his 100th Ranji Trophy game, smashing 41 off 30 balls.
