Bangkok: Indian men's badminton team scripted history securing their first-ever medal at the Thomas Cup with a thrilling 3-2 win over Malaysia in the quarterfinals in Bangkok yesterday.
While in the first match, Lakshya Sen went down 21-23, 9-21 to reigning world champion Lee Zii Jia, pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty defeated the pair of Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin 21-19, 21-15 bringing India back in the five-match tie.
Kidambi Srikanth then prevailed over Ng Tze Yong 21-11, 21-17. However, in the 4th match, the duo of Krishna Prasad and Vishnuvardhan lost to Aaron Chia and Teo Ee Yi.
HS Prannoy then helped India clinch the semi-final as he trounced Leong Jun Hao 21-13, 21-8.
India is now assured of at least a bronze in the tournament. India will now face Denmark in the semifinals.
