In the UEFA European Football Championship, Portugal and France have advanced to the quarter-finals. Portugal defeated Slovenia in a penalty shootout, 3-nil, in Frankfurt, Germany last night, July 1.
The pre-quarterfinal headed into a penalty shootout after both teams failed to produce a breakthrough in the stipulated time. Skipper Cristiano Ronaldo, alongside Bruno Fernandes and Bernardo Silva, scored the
crucial penalties, while goalkeeper Diogo Costa heroically saved all three shots attempted by Slovenia.
In another pre-quarter final, France clinched a hard-fought victory over Belgium in Düsseldorf. An own goal from Jan Vertonghen in the 85th minute propelled France into the next stage of the competition. France will take on Portugal in the Quarter-final on Saturday.
